Cleaning Guide

The Furput cleaning routine

We designed the fountain so every water-contact part comes off. This is what a real cleaning routine looks like โ€” no shortcuts, no "self-cleaning" promises.

Cleaning cadence at a glance

How oftenWhat to doTime
WeeklyRinse the reservoir and refill with fresh water2 min
Every 2โ€“4 weeksReplace the filter cartridge1 min
MonthlyFull clean โ€” reservoir, pump, filter housing, motor exterior7โ€“10 min
Every 3 monthsFull disassembly and deep clean (including gaskets)15 min

What you'll need

Weekly rinse (2 minutes)

  1. Empty the fountain into the sink.
  2. Rinse the reservoir under warm running water โ€” no soap needed.
  3. Wipe down with a clean towel or leave to air dry.
  4. Refill with fresh cool tap water.

Monthly full clean (7โ€“10 minutes)

  1. Unplug the fountain (if in continuous mode) and empty all water.
  2. Remove the gooseneck spout, motor housing, and pump โ€” they lift out. Do not submerge the motor housing.
  3. Wash the reservoir, gooseneck spout, and filter housing with warm water and a small amount of washing-up liquid. Use the brush to reach any crevices.
  4. Rinse the submersible pump thoroughly under warm running water. Use the narrow bottle brush to clean inside the pump inlet.
  5. Wipe the outside of the motor housing with a damp cloth. Never submerge it.
  6. Rinse everything again to remove any soap residue.
  7. Reassemble, refill with fresh water, and restart.

Filter replacement (every 2โ€“4 weeks)

The 4-stage filter cartridge captures hair, food debris, and reduces chlorine taste. It's not permanent โ€” it gets saturated with what it captures.

Signs it's time to replace:

How to replace:

  1. Empty the fountain.
  2. Lift out the old filter and dispose of it.
  3. Rinse the new filter under cold water for 30 seconds (this removes carbon dust and primes it).
  4. Drop the new filter into the filter housing. It should sit flush.
  5. Refill and restart.

Replacement filters are ยฃ14.99 for a 6-pack on our accessories section.

Every 3 months โ€” deep clean

Once a quarter, take everything apart and clean the parts you don't get to weekly:

  1. Follow the monthly full-clean steps above.
  2. Additionally: remove and clean the silicone gaskets around the reservoir and motor housing. These trap the most residue over time.
  3. If you have hard water, soak the pump in a solution of 50% white vinegar and 50% water for 15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
  4. Inspect for any signs of wear on the pump. If flow has slowed even after cleaning, order a replacement pump (ยฃ14.99).

Common mistakes to avoid

โŒ Do not submerge the motor housing โ€” only wipe the outside.
โŒ Do not use bleach, ammonia, or harsh chemicals โ€” they can damage the seals and leave residue in the water your pet drinks.
โŒ Do not skip the pump โ€” it's the part most owners forget and where the most build-up happens.
โŒ Do not put any component in the dishwasher unless we specifically confirm it's dishwasher-safe.
